A city that never sleeps
The world isn't as it seems, and New Yorkers certainly know that well. While the element Asterium is not widely understood, those in the city's underground know better. For millenia, humans have known of this energy. They called those born with it in their bones changelings and mutants. Legends have told of werewolves and vampires for centuries. Those who can harness it became witches and warlocks. All they know now is that some things are better kept secret, and where else can you hide a secret better than New York City?

He could relax a little more too. He didn't doubt that humans dealt with incompetence, but Diana didn't seem incompetent to him yet, just...distracted. He wasn't an angel with a fondness for humans nor a dislike for them, but the hunter intrigued him, and while he didn't exactly trust humans, he felt like the smile she gave him was truly genuine. He could trust that, at least.
"I'll try my best to be a good student then," he affirmed, "I'm sure you'll be a better teacher than you think; after all I truly am at a loss...I'll certainly have more questions about everything." It was clear that she had her itinerary; she had listed some books she was interested in. They'd probably be more 'human' than the books they were looking at today, he thought, almost smirking at some of the strange things he had read about. Humans certainly had big ideas.
"No need to thank me," he replied evenly as he held an arm for her, "it was my pleasure to help." She didn't seem as unsteady as the night before, and for that–and the fact that she no longer seemed to be in a terrible mood–he was glad.

After Theo walked her back to their room, Diana showered and toweled off, flopping onto her own bed and staring up at the ceiling. Normally, when she was drunk like this she would be sobbing or dancing or hooking up with someone, but this new challenge was keeping her preoccupied. It was hard to think of things to do, in her hazy state of mind, but it kept her entertained until she passed out. In sleep, her face lost its bitterness and sarcasm- she looked... innocent, even, with her mouth slightly ajar and a small trail of drool running down to her shoulder.
Diana was not in the best mood the next morning, hungover and faintly regretting her promise not to drink any more. She sipped the tea that Theo offered her sullenly, rebuffing any attempts at conversation until they were in their rental car and headed out for the cliffs.
"What did you find out from the tourist center?" She asked, fingers tapping on the steering wheel as she followed the directions they'd been given to get out to the archaeological site.

As Theo brought her back, he could almost smile, looking at the way she just fell asleep so quickly. She truly was so human, a trait he was beginning to understand. Still, his expression softened as he sat by the table. Angels truly didn't need as much sleep as humans did,
As she woke, he had already prepared a cup of tea and grabbed water and sandwiches for the rest of the day; he only hoped she didn't mind what he had chosen. "They mentioned that there's a bus there but I guess we don't need it," he shrugged, "they only gave me a flyer but they said they usually have guides over there I guess...so I assume we'll probably be able to trail one of those when we're there."

Theo's assumption proved to be right. The cliffs were an impressive sight, and they trailed a tour guide into the caves that wound through them, following along behind another group that was chattering away in Polish to each other. Diana stuck close to Theo's side, glancing warily around the caves.
"I don't like small spaces," she grumbled. "And this doesn't feel very friendly." Apparently the rest of their group did not feel as unwelcome as she did, but she wondered if Theo felt the same ominous presence in the caves. On a hunch, Diana grabbed Theo's arm, pulling him to the right when their group took a left. "The writings are said to be deeper in the cliffside, and they look like they're headed the wrong way," she said, holding up her phone's flashlight to guide her through the darkening tunnels. "Let's check this cave out."

The people on tour seemed to just be simple tourists; their conversations revolved around stupid things, from what they wanted to eat for lunch or what else they wanted to do in the city later on. As the tour guide explained the caves, Theo couldn't help but feel like there was nothing of merit towards that direction either. Caves were just...caves. It was strange, the darkness felt a bit oppressing really, the pressure making the air seem thinner. The guide explained it as something to do with the depth or whatever but he didn't listen.
He looked over to Diana. "Me neither," he agreed, "not really buying the whole 'air pressure is different here' thing they're saying...seems a bit odd to me too. Not exactly demons or anything, just...a weird feeling. I think we better be careful," he muttered, as he turned with her, glancing at the group who seemed unaware of anything around them.
"Do you have a map of the tunnels or are we figuring this out ourselves?" he asked. The tunnels seemed deep, and he wouldn't be surprised if the people here didn't have a complete map of what everything looked like, but a sense of direction without following his weird intuition of 'something's dangerous out here' would be nice.
