Bea surveyed the store, wiping the sweat out of her eyes. The shop was finally back in order after the strange confrontation the week before, a memory which caused a shiver down her spine. It had taken the weekend to get a work crew into the store to put the doors back on their hinges and to change the locks to something a little more sturdy. Only earlier that morning had an ADT tech left after installing a new alarm system, an investment in her peace of mind, she told herself.
She felt terrible both Eme and Sello had to see the kerfuffle, but felt a little relief to see her store back in order....or as orderly as a flowershop run by one person could be. The fragrant scent of exotic flowers filled the air, and the curtains were drawn on the windows, allowing the morning sunlight to flood the store. She'd called Sello after she had everything back in order, but had to leave a message when he didn't answer. She didn't blame him; she had trouble making herself go back downstairs the first couple of times.
Still, she'd apologized for everything and asked him to come back for his first day on the job, if he wanted it. Though their interview had been short, she felt like he would be a good fit. After all, though his shy nature might take some working on, he seemed honest and good-hearted, which was enough for her. She just needed someone she could trust and enjoy being around to help pick up some of the slack that had grown since her parents left her as the only one taking care of the shop.
She looked at her computer screen, the light painting her pale skin a watery blue, and tried to force herself to work on the quarterly taxes due soon. The bell on the door coupled with the new CCTV system installed allowed her to keep track when anyone entered, but while the store was empty she was determined to get some paperwork done. Hopefully if Sello decided to show up, she would be able to get a lot more back-room work done while he managed to front. Letting out a sigh, she propped her head up on her hand, hoping he did appear.
