A city that never sleeps
The world isn't as it seems, and New Yorkers certainly know that well. While the element Asterium is not widely understood, those in the city's underground know better. For millenia, humans have known of this energy. They called those born with it in their bones changelings and mutants. Legends have told of werewolves and vampires for centuries. Those who can harness it became witches and warlocks. All they know now is that some things are better kept secret, and where else can you hide a secret better than New York City?

achromaticRight jab, left hook, kick. Left jab, right hook, kick. Light on her feet, hopping from one to the other as she threw punches into the bag. Jesha loved kick-boxing. It gave her a confidence and a calmness that she rarely achieved doing anything else. The best part? She was really damn good at it. Her whole training regimen was based off of kick-boxing routines. Jesha is a strong individual and takes immense pride in that fact. She finished her session and took a deep breath. She had pushed herself and now had a layer of sweat covering her skin. She needed another mission. She felt good, she was ready, and she needed something to do besides train. Jesha wasn't one to really have friends. She didn't go out and hang out with the girls or go shopping. It just wasn't her style. Jesha took a shower at headquarters and changed her clothes into ones she usually wore for hunts. She grabbed her gear; a switch blade in her back pocket and a a gun holster secured around her thigh. Feeling refreshed and ready-to-go, she headed up to the big bosses' place. She had very high respect for the Shadow Hunter. Jesha was a soldier and she happily fell into place where she needed to be. She took authority very well and did what she had to do to get the job done. She would be requesting a new hunt, a new excitement to spend her time with. "Dregs?" Jesha said quietly, rapping her knuckles on the door a few times. As she awaited his answer, she pondered what she would be taking out today. A vamp? Shifter? Or one of those exciting mutants? Those were fun.

Both of his jobs often flowed into one another. Private investigator by day and hunter by night; it worked out for him. After all, plenty of his leads as a PI actually ended up discovering secrets along the way. The biggest secret of all was the fact that creatures of all kinds lived under the guise of normalcy that was New York. Even more surprising was how powerful other organizations could be, protecting creatures that should've been destroyed ages ago.
There were plenty of cases and too few hunters, Tobias thought, as he looked through the papers, of missing reports and small news stories that haven't quite broken the surface yet. Sitting on the desk and looking to the whiteboard behind it, with his messy writing and pictures all put into an intricate map of thought, he sighed before giving a long stretch, blinking tiredly at his work. He had been staring at it too long.
He almost missed the knock on the door, and he turned to the sound, his expression impassive, though the furrow of his brow could be mistaken as annoyance. "Mm, what is it?" he asked, glancing to the other hunter. Jesha, one of the newer recruits. She was a decent fighter from some of the rumours he had heard, though he had yet to speak with the other woman, "did you need something from me?"

She knew they were behind. There was a lot going on this city and she knew some of it had be supernatural related but he seemed more busy than usual and even a bit frazzled? At his words, Jesha stepped into the room slightly and leaned against the door frame. She had decided to wear a black tank top, jeans, and an old sneakers. Just simple attire that would be comfortable to move in and not bind her in any way. She regretted now not grabbing a light jacket.
"Do you have any available assignments?" She asked, her voice giving a small hint of yearning and hope. This is what she did. She trains, and takes out the "baddies". Jesha honestly didn't know who she was without being a hunter. That scared her sometimes.

The man frowned, before gesturing to Jesha to come over and sit. It wasn't an assignment he gave to newbies, the one he was working on, and while Jesha seemed capable, he didn't know the extent of her abilities and strengths. He didn't even know if she had hunted before or if she was just fresh meat in the game, and maybe previous shadowhunters had the numbers to be expendable, but these days, he didn't. There were too many young ones getting killed out there, and he had stopped sending the younger members out in the wild in hopes of getting them more prepared later on.
Then again, survival wasn't something that could be learned. It was a talent.
"There's one I'm working on," he spoke, glancing to the board, "near Flushing. Not anything big yet, but there are reports on seeing a fox-like creature out there hunting on humans. I'm not sure if it's a shifter or something else, but it's starting to cause a nuisance. I also have a feeling it might be connected to something else."
Whatever that creature was, it was targeting a very specific group of people, particularly working men, ones who had visited a specific massage parlor recently." He suspected they were there for the brothels or something, but he wasn't sure. Whatever that creature was, it was targeting these type of men, and while Tobias found them sleazy just the same, he had to put an end to it.
"You up for a quick look around tonight?" he offered, "we might not find anything but we can at least take a look around."

Jesha had done a few promising hunts. Nothing over-the-top but she had proven herself a fairly good rookie. She never backed down from a challenge and was excited when he called her over. It meant it wasn't just some run of the mill task.
She moved closer and took a seat, scanning the board. Her eyes flitted back and forth, taking in all the data she could. Jesha had a photographic memory and in this job, it could mean a lot. It also meant a lot of information to sift through in a pinch. Fox-like creature, huh? Interesting. She wondered if it was larger than a fox? Would they need different equipment? She nodded her head as he spoke, moving her gaze from the board to Tremayne accordingly. And it was targeting sleazy men. She wasn't sure if she liked the idea of killing the thing. It was doing a good job, like a snake taking care of rats. Which pest do you want disposed of?
His offer surprised her. She had never been on a hunt with him before and it almost made her nervous but she quickly shook off the thought and nodded her head once more, standing upright.
"Of course, ready when you are," replied Jesha, her mind swimming with the best strategies, "Do you know if its just one, or multiple creatures?

The man nodded. His gaze flickered towards Jesha when she started to look through the information. He noted the expression she made when she glanced at the men's details. He could guess what she was thinking; men at brothels, sleazy kind of guys with a wife and children, cheating on their partners. Really, they were practically asking for it. Still, it wasn't his job to play judge and jury, and as sleazy and shitty these people were, they had their jobs in the society, and they were useful.
After all, if time went on and the supernatural of this city decided they had enough, it wasn't just enough to gather the good people. Even the messy, sleazy types would be needed in the war.
"Just one, I believe, but we're never sure until we catch them," he frowned, "but all the victims have similar wounds. Claw marks on their arms, death from a wound to the neck. Probably snapped spine but a lot of them were missing the entire head, just torn clean off. It took them a while to...determine who these men were."
"What weapons do you use?" he asked, already grabbing the bag on a couch by the side of the room, "and how comfortable are you with killing these things right now?" He looked her over, before giving her a polite smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. "It's better to know so I can plan for any...discrepancies with our hunting styles."
