A city that never sleeps
The world isn't as it seems, and New Yorkers certainly know that well. While the element Asterium is not widely understood, those in the city's underground know better. For millenia, humans have known of this energy. They called those born with it in their bones changelings and mutants. Legends have told of werewolves and vampires for centuries. Those who can harness it became witches and warlocks. All they know now is that some things are better kept secret, and where else can you hide a secret better than New York City?

DelroweSpeakeasies and cocktail bars were always Rhiannon's thing, so it was almost funny when Hywel was the one who ended up owning one. 'Not some hidden opium den?' Rhiannon had joked when he first came to her with the idea. Still, basing the entire aesthetic off of Alchemy signs made her roll her eyes. It was a beautiful venue, and the drinks were excellent, but could he make it any more obvious? Might as well name it the Alchemist if he wanted to wave a flag at the hunters and tell them that they were still in the city despite all their past attempts at getting rid of these two. Still, the witches were a lot more easy-going now, their council no longer meddling in affairs of non-coven witches as often, and it was a good time to let her hair down these days. She stepped into the bar, immediately heading towards one of the bar seats without waiting to be seated, the slight wave of her hand gestured to the front of house–what was his name again? Joey? Jimmy?–that she'd be managing on her own. "Ah, Rhiannon! It's been a while," the bartender grinned, wiping a glass, "your usual dry martini?" She smiled politely at the man. "Only if you have my favourite olives," she chuckled, placing her purse on the seat next to her. "Castelvetrano, right?" he smirked, "coming right up. Hywel should be out in an hour or so, he's just finishing a call with one of the suppliers I think." She shrugged. "Don't worry, I'm not in a hurry," she smirked, "I don't come here enough and you're the only one in the city who can make my martinis the right way." The man laughed, before grabbing the bottle of gin, giving her a wink and an assurance on the quality of his cocktails, as Rhiannon checked her phone again. The bar was getting a bit louder as people filtered in after work in groups and crowds. Seems like business was doing well then, she thought.

People were just pissing her off today. She had clients who were rude and pushy, she had no muse for her art work, and she simply was having one of those days. It hit her sometimes that she was a creature who never aged. There was no progression in her life and it got to her. Nothing would change and she would be doing the same thing over and over for rest of her long life. Olivia didn't usually associate with other supernaturals - vampire in particular. She hated her kind unless she met one that saw the world as she did. She despised the blood suckers that relished in what they were.
The red-head walked into the bar, the familiar sound and atmosphere greeting her politely; telling her to come in, have a seat, relax. It was rather well-decorated and gave her an elixir and potion kind of feel. Almost an elegant Halloween theme. It was different, but she welcomed it. She needed this tonight. She didn't want to get wasted and do something stupid, she just wanted to have a good time and numb herself just a bit. Hopefully there wouldn't be any...problems here tonight. She glanced around, her eyes finding a seat a few stools down from Rhiannon just as she ordered her drink. Castelvetrano olives, huh? Those were her favorite as well. She lifted a hand, getting the bartender's attention before giving him a small grin.
"I'll uh, I'll have the same as her," Olivia said, her words laced with an accent that betrayed her home country so easily. She gestured her head towards the other woman. It sounded good and she loved those damn olives. Nice starter for her evening.

Rhiannon rarely paid attention to any of the other patrons; it wasn't her job and well, other than one or two of the staff–the bartenders and manager in particular–she wasn't really known as a regular. Sending a quick text, she glanced up, her eyes flickering to the woman who decided to sit a couple of seats to her right.
Any other day, she wouldn't have given the woman a second look, but her accent was faintly reminiscent of a different time, and the redhead referred to her when ordering a drink, so that was new. Rhiannon had time to spare, and part of her didn't know whether to feel funny or flattered that someone would ask for the exact same drink as hers.
"A martini person, are ye?" she spoke, allowing her accent to shift the way it naturally did when she was talking to Hywel alone. It had been decades since she had learned the more common, American tongue, but there were moments–quiet ones, especially when she heard her own mother tones–when she'd quickly switch without a second thought.
"I take mine with one part vodka and two parts gin, vermouth, lemon peel, and olive," she shrugged, "not sure if you'd prefer straight gin and vermouth, but you better tell him if you're a strictly gin kind of person." After all, she had her own recipes in this place, particularly that dry martini and their old fashioned, which they incased in smoke. It wasn't to everyone's tastes, but there were perks when one had shares in the company too, no?

Olivia got a weird vibe from this bar. Not good, or bad, but just a peculiar feeling. Almost as if she was in another time altogether, where trinkets and runes existed. Time seemed to freeze while she was in here. It was a beautiful established, however, and she enjoyed its aesthetic. She had never been here before this night but she considered it one of her new favorites.
"Ay, the more vodka and gin, the better," She responded, a small smile on her face as she glanced at the woman and then to the bartender to confirm that was what she wanted. Olivia was a vodka girl through and through. One of her favorites was a simple mix that always got her a little more than tipsy; vodka, club soda, and lime. It was a sure fire way to get her to have a good time.
"Is that a house drink? Or one ye made up for yerself?" She asked, swiveling her stool to face the other woman now.

Ah, a girl with taste; Rhiannon could at least appreciate that. Perhaps the bar did have its perks. Personally, she'd never be able to run a place like this; she didn't have the natural charm and charisma and most of all, the energy to do even half as good of a job as Hywel did. She loved her alcohol, that was true, and she probably had a more sophisticated taste for it, but Hywel was a better owner than she was. She was the introvert of the two, preferring books and reading and gaining more in this world, while Hywel had always been the one who didn't care. All he cared about was having a good time these days. She couldn't blame him, but they certainly weren't the same.
Rhiannon gave Olivia a dry smile. "Let's just say it was a recipe from someone I met once. Lived through the prohibition and once he was out, proceeded to make as many strong drinks as he possibly could. I guess it makes total sense, but this one kind of...stuck with me." It wasn't all a lie, cocktails and potions were more or less the same, and this one, she did learn from someone in a bar back sometime in the roaring 20s, and frankly, after the mess that was Prohibition, the first thing she had wanted was this specific cocktail.
"If you ask me, the best drink they have here is probably the Smoky Old Fashioned. The owner's favourite drink, I heard. Probably means it's the best thing on the list."

Despite Olivia owning a small art shop in the city, she would never own a bar. The legalities and the obnoxious people that came with the title would be too much for her. Not to mention the types of...creatures that would come in. Including herself. She didn't want to deal with that. Olivia didn't frequent bars very often either, but she knew a few sleazy vamps that took this crowd as an opportunity for an easy meal.
As the red-head listened to the other, her mind took ahold of a piece of information that struck her as odd. The prohibition? How could this woman, who couldn't be far from her own false age, have met someone during that period? The only explanation was something Olivia didn't want to face. She disliked other supernaturals. Most of them were pretentious, and some of them even downright evil. So far, this woman seemed to be okay but going off one interaction was not ideal. What kind of tricks did she have up her sleeve? Olivia immediately tensed slightly and she hoped it wasn't noticeable to the other.
"Smoky Old Fashioned, is it?" The more she spoke, the more her accent flowed through her words. In small doses, it could be missed but at this point, her home country was known. She opened her mouth to ask what all was in the drink when a loud commotion began out on the floor not too far from where the two were sitting. It started with people yelling, then a couple of glasses could be heard shattering into a million pieces. Some guy was shoved into Olivia just as she turned around to see what was going on, "Watch it!" She hissed, standing up from her stool. The whole bar was in an uproar now. It happened so fast; two seconds and everyone was yelling and throwing each other around. Olivia glanced at Rhiannon before jumping into the mix and trying to pull people away from each other.

Rhiannon didn't realize her comment as anything odd at all, at least until it actually came out of her mouth. Sometimes, she forgot that she looked like she was barely twenty-five and that twenty-five-year-olds rarely met anyone who was from the 20s. She was meticulous about details, yes, but even the most careful made occasional mistakes. Then again, the other woman would probably not question it, right? She could easily say it was her grandfather; there were still men who lived over a hundred, and it'd be a good enough excuse. After all, old men loved telling 'back in the day' stories, didn't they?
The young woman could detect a faint lilt in the other woman's accent, and for a moment, she was about to ask. It was faint, as if she wasn't used to speaking in her mother tongue anymore, but she could tell it was Scottish. She had heard enough of their language to know nowadays. However, a shatter of glass interrupted her, as she turned to a man being shoved into Olivia. Oh great. Even in a fancy place like this, people could be so uncivilized . Her lips pressed into a tight line, as the bartenders peered over behind her to get a look.
"Focaeir," she grumbled under her breath, before getting up. Hywel was not going to be pleased; just last week someone had broken one of the fancier glasses, and those things were a fortune to replace. Thank god it was just the cheap normal ones, she thought, as she stood up.
"Oi!" she snapped, pulling one of them off of another, "get yer' shit together and get out." She beckoned to the security guards in front of the space, "Jesus Christ, we're in Brooklyn not a dumpster dive bar, take it somewhere else ya stupid feckers." The men seemed intent on ignoring her, but Rhiannon was more stubborn than anything, and damn, if she wasn't going to make them pay for the damages. Maybe Hywel was the kind to let it slide, but surely, Rhiannon was not.
