A city that never sleeps
The world isn't as it seems, and New Yorkers certainly know that well. While the element Asterium is not widely understood, those in the city's underground know better. For millenia, humans have known of this energy. They called those born with it in their bones changelings and mutants. Legends have told of werewolves and vampires for centuries. Those who can harness it became witches and warlocks. All they know now is that some things are better kept secret, and where else can you hide a secret better than New York City?

"This is not for you. Remember, this is not for you." She spoke quietly as she pulled her hair into a single braid the same way her mother used to when she was young. It would have been a tighter braid, if it were not for the fact that her fingers trembled slightly. Her anxiousness of the situation was more warranted now than it normally was, after all, she was leaving behind her familiar. Severine hadn't left her side since the two had met, and if nothing else, the raven was a good sentry. Now, she was to face the outside world completely alone.
She pulled a heavy sweatshirt over her shoulders. It was a bizarre move, being that the air outside her cottage in the woods was thick and hot. Still, if she was to leave the house without Severine, she needed to be completely unrecognizable. She threw the baseball hat over her head. This was paranoia at its best, and Sybil Arcenceaux knew this. Still, she couldn't shake the idea that if she left her cabin without such precautions, her powers would once again be put into the wrong hands.
She let out a deep sigh, before turning to the raven. "You take care of him, you hear? If something happens, find me." She glanced at the feverish body that laid on the bed beside her. He looked nearly half dead. She pressed the back of her hand to his forehead, feeling its clammy heat. She didn't have much longer if she didn't find some way to help him.
"This is our last resort, Sev. If rumors are wrong and this man isn't the great potions master I heard he was, Denali will die." The words broke as they came out. Although her relationship with her brother, who had not inherrited the family charm but remained completely human, was estranged, the idea that she had failed him by being unable to help made tears well in her eyes. If only she were better.
She let out another sigh, before placing a glass of water within arms reach of his slumbering body. "I'll be back, hahji'."

If this was the right place, she'd probably never know. It looked no different than any other hermit-esque domicile, but Sybil had to have some faith that she was in the right place. After all, if she wasn't, she was once again at step one. She didn't have time to be at step one. Letting out a stabilizing breath, the woman walked the last few steps to the door, before knocking a rat-at-at knock. "Mr. Kastle? Are you here?"

Inside the place was completely dark, black out curtains covered any and all windows in the home, making it impossible for any light to fill the room. Except for a single beam of light coming in from the corner of one of the windows that had not been entirely covered by the black linens. As it just so happened that beam of light was shining right into the closed eyes of 'Mr. Kastle' who until roused from his unconscious state by the knocking on his door was completely unaware of it until now.
Lifting himself up onto one arm so that he could look around in his confused state, he could have sworn he'd heard something or someone calling him. "Gah! why can't you people just leave me alone!?" He groaned allowed rolling over and getting out of his bed. He looked around his dark studio set up, the counters a mess with half empty glass bottles, most of them various types of alcohol, others not so much. He stumbled around, his eyes straining in the dark until he found what he was looking for. A black robe thrown haphazardly over the back of his large leather chair.
He snagged it as he passed by on his way to the door, shrugging it on but not bothering to tie it shut before he flung the door open, visibly wincing at the brightness of the midday sun. He was to put it politely a mess, as he learned in the door way, brown hair completely disheveled as he used himself to block his unexpected guest's view of the interior of his home. "Who are you, what do you want?" he grumbled squinting to see her while still being blinded by the sun.

She winced slightly at his appearance. Ah, of course, the one person who may be able to help her just happened to be someone who wasn't the most pleasant. Her grip on the messenger back she carried tightened as she prepared to make a quick escape if necessary. Hopefully, it didn't come to that. It couldn't come to that, not if she wanted to save the life of the man in her bed.
Straightening her shoulders and holding her chin up slightly, as if to feign confidence, she began to speak. "My name is Sybil Arcenceaux." She paused for a moment; she was never quite sure if others had heard of the familiar last name. Many had, simply because the Arcenceaux line was one of the few that carried with it time magic. Others didn't, as the Arcenceauxs had never entered the coven. They had always been loners, only interacting with other witches when interaction was necessary. They had always had better things to do, namely take care of the small tribal community to which their gifts had been blessed to. Sybil was the first to sever the tie with the rest of the community when she fled to a life of solitude to protect those she loved. "My grandmother, Atepa, left me her beloved book of names when she passed to the other side. In it, there was the name of witches and warlocks that had particular gifts or were particularly talented."
She shifted her weight. Was flattery going to win his favor? Probably not, if she could tell by looking at him. Well, or by seeing him out of the corner of her eye. After all, she felt a little... uncomfortable looking right at him, being that he was mostly naked in front of her.
"Your name was in the book, and I've come to ask you a favor. You are a potions master, no?"

Carlisle stared blankly at her for a moment after she'd introduced herself. It was one thing that he knew never changed with witches, coven or not names, titles, bloodlines they all seemed to mean something. Even his at one point used to mean something. That of course was a long time ago. As she continued to speak he pressed off from the door frame retreating inside the dark house leaving the door open behind him.
He could still hear her as he partially opened the curtains that covered the largest window allowing more light to spill into the stagnate house. To his credit it wasn't an absolute wreck being that the floor was completely clear but, every surface was completely covered by bottles, vials and books of all kinds. He stood at the counter with is back to her picking up and examining some of the half empty bottles and setting them down one by one clearly dissatisfied. Until he picked up a large bottle that was marked with a skull and cross bones, filled with a translucent green liquid. Finally satisfied he poured himself a glass and made his way over to his large leather chair before flopping down in it and turning his full attention back to Sybil.
"Was" he corrected pausing to take a drink. "I was a potions master."

She assumed that meant that she should follow him, so the twenty something entered the house with slight caution. Her gaze swept the room critically. To the outsider, it may have looked like judgement of her new surroundings, but this wasn't necessarily the case. It was for her own protection. If she was going to be in an inclosed space, she needed to know where every escape route was. She had been careful not to be followed, but that meant nothing. If she was going to need to use her own power, which she was prepared to do if she needed to to secure a remedy for Denali, she needed to make sure she knew how to escape if things went south. After deciding she knew the layout enough, she shut the door quietly behind her.
Noticing him take a sip, she almost wondered if she had come to the wrong house. If he was already drinking, and their interaction was so far all of three seconds, could he really be helpful? You don't have a choice, you have to do this, the small voice in the back of her head reminded. She let out a soft, almost unnoticeable sigh to center herself.
"Looking around," she replied after a moment of awkward silence, "it appears that was might not be the best word." She picked up a vial off the ground. They were like the ones her grandmother once used. Realizing that maybe she shouldn't touch his items, she quickly placed it back to the ground with a sheepish smile. "But, if you don't agree, what are you now?" There was a hint of nervousness in her voice as she slowly tried to work through in her head for the eighteenth time how she was going to get him to help her save her brother.
