A city that never sleeps
The world isn't as it seems, and New Yorkers certainly know that well. While the element Asterium is not widely understood, those in the city's underground know better. For millenia, humans have known of this energy. They called those born with it in their bones changelings and mutants. Legends have told of werewolves and vampires for centuries. Those who can harness it became witches and warlocks. All they know now is that some things are better kept secret, and where else can you hide a secret better than New York City?

"All very true," Autumm nodded, running a hand through her black curls. "There were some drunk men outside one of the gay bars I went to that were not very friendly." They had been human, so she had retracted her powers when she'd approached, though they'd still accosted her with rather homophobic slurs. Though there were undoubtedly those who shared their views among the supernaturals, Autumn was less willing to forgive and forget with humans.
"Are you well traveled? I thought I heard a hint of Irish in your voice," she admitted with a chuckle. "I spent a few years globetrotting to learn more magic, and I spent a month or so just outside of Dublin." Her own mother was descended from Polish immigrants who carried fae blood, and her father was Scottish, so she had been particularly interested in those areas.

He frowned at that. "God those are the worst," he scoffed, "I swear, one thing that never changes is how absolutely shit drunk assholes can be. I'm sure you can take care of yourself but...you really have to be careful around them sometimes." He had his experience throughout the ages–he could remember back in the 50s, when they used to gang up on people like him, working with the pigs to get queers locked up whenever they could.
He had harbored a hatred for them, for everyone back then. It had made stealing their lives plenty easier.
Ah, so he could hear his accent? He allowed a slight flush upon his cheeks at her comment. "My family's Irish, we emigrated here when I was younger...I'm not from Dublin though. We lived in a small town; you wouldn't know it, but yeah, my family spoke Irish when we were kids. Not much now but you know, I was the weird immigrant kid once, believe it or not." He laughed at that.
"So you're well-traveled too eh?" he spoke, interest in his gaze, "why Dublin? I mean, it's a great city and all, but I don't hear a lot of people putting it on their vacation list. Anything interesting? Magic-wise, I mean."

Autumn had no idea the extent of discrimination that he'd faced- she was young and relatively sheltered, and paid little mind to what others thought of her. Besides, her experiences with women had been mostly positive, with nothing to spoil it or make her bitter. All of that, again, thanks to her charm and seduction.
"I had a long list of places to visit," Autumn said truthfully. She had traveled Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America over four years, mostly to hone her craft. "There were plenty of Celtic remnants there, if you knew where to look." She truly felt bad for new witches with no connections- her father had plenty of contacts around the world, so her visits had been less random and more intentional. "Though I enjoyed a lot of the voodoo in the African covens."

Ah, of course. He had heard stories, at least, of different cultures within witchcraft. His own practice had been short. His mother had been weakened when she started training him–he always held a little bit of resentment for that. How could a well known witch with a specialization that was rare in the world have fallen so low, to not find a way out of the poverty that they had lived through other than marrying a sailor who had no respect for any of their kind? Still, she had told them stories, of the druids and the kings of old, of dryads and nymphs and the Green Man. They were old stories, old enough to be almost lost in the ages. It was rare to meet a witch who knew of these stories, at least in the New World.
"That's interesting," he hummed, "I mean, I heard of the stories, you know? My mother used to tell us this stuff when she taught us magic back when we were kids. Never knew about the other cultures though...you know, you don't get a lot of exposure to that when you're in Ireland since the only magic you see there is the Druidic kind. Would've been cool if we could afford going around and learning this stuff but we were...pretty working class, I guess."
Then again, he had the money now. He could always take another trip to New Orleans and learn about the Voodoo there, but what was the point? He wasn't a warlock anymore. There was no way for him to practice magic. He sighed at that, before turning to Autumn with a smile. "You know, you must be a pretty powerful witch if you got to learn all of these types of magic. I thought witches usually kept their family secrets close to heart, you know? My mother would never teach another witch who wasn't from our bloodline, at least."

She was a powerful witch, certainly, but she would be far less accomplished without her fae blood. "Most usually do, but I've found I can be very persuasive." She smiled, thinking back to the ease with which she undermined the secretive nature of covens. "Never violent, of course, just good with people." If manipulation and bewitching was considered people skills.
It was this fact, the fact that Autumn had gotten everything she wanted from birth, the fact that people tended to fawn over her, that made her dangerous. She had never known rejection, or hardship, or even the displeasure of denial. When the world seemed to revolve around you, you could become dangerously deluded.
"If you want, you can stop by my house at any time," she said brightly, pulling a slip of paper from her small bag and scrawling an address on it. "I host plenty of witches- it's up in the mountains, surrounded by wildlife. There's a lot of good energy up there. And I could teach you some of the magical secrets I keep stored away." There was a smile playing on her full lips, a scheme developing in her mind. Perhaps it was time to start on her long-considered plan. Hywel wouldn't be a bad man to start with, and he would enjoy it, in the end.

Even if he wasn't necessarily attracted to her, she was...captivating, at least. If not for her beauty–Hywel could admire what he did not desire after all–for the sheer power she practically radiated. She really did seem the type, charming and charismatic. He could certainly believe that she held some strange power that simply made others want for more, for lack of a better word.
"I'm not much of a witch these days," he admitted, "it's been a while since I've been...able to practice magic I suppose." It was the truth, though he wasn't often as candid about it. It was his second cardinal rule, after all. Don't tell anyone what he truly was. "I suppose it can't hurt to try. I've always been interested in learning less...traditional forms of magic. Do you have a specialty?" Even being in a space where magic was accepted would be fascinating, to say the least, and this woman piqued his interest, that was for sure.
While he didn't exactly trust this woman, he was sure that learning more about magic, regardless of whether he could practice it or not, could prove useful. He took the paper from her, looking at the address. "Then perhaps I should get your contact or something?" he chuckled, "you know, if you want to grab a coffee and talk about your magic sometime."

Autumn smiled at his acceptance, pleased and eager to begin on the next part of her plan. She would have to play the part of a patient friend, though, even if she wasn't good at waiting. So something was blocking his abilities? That was fascinating. "I specialize in healing and cleansing in particular. There might be something I can do to help you, if you let me take a closer look at you one day."
A coffee sounded nice. She took the paper back briefly to scrawl her number on it. "I'm a bad texter, but I'll return calls as quickly as I can. Just let me know when and where you want to meet and I'll put it on my schedule." She grinned at her own weak joke, smoothing out the soft fabric of her dress. She would prioritize Hywel especially, if he asked.

Healing and cleansing? Hywel had to admit he was intrigued. He had met a few creatures in his past who claimed to be able to understand any affliction, and yet few had actually been able to deliver as promised. He couldn't even remember exactly what had happened. He knew that he had gotten into a fight with another witch, and he knew that whatever happened had stripped him of his powers and given him something he couldn't explain. Other than that, things were still unclear.
He rarely dwelled on it, but these days, it couldn't hurt. He wouldn't outright tell her, of course. He wasn't stupid enough to reveal his secret so early on in the game. If she truly did have a power with healing and cleansing, she'd notice the blot on his soul easy enough.
"I'll hold you to it," he grinned, his expression still friendly, relaxed, hesitating for a moment before speaking once more, "to be honest, I actually have today off. I had planned on well...hanging about the park for the rest of the afternoon, but if you didn't have anything later on, I suppose I wouldn't mind seeing the magic you have to offer."

Autumn fought to keep the smile on her face from getting too eager. She was a born actress, though, and still managed to convey her delight without letting the predatory aspect of it surface. "That sounds lovely," she said. "We of course should do it somewhere private- my cabin would be best, if you truly don't mind."
Of course she would heal him- she could do him that much at least, in exchange for what she wanted from him. It might take a few sessions, depending on the severity, but she was a good healer. Besides, he was a witch, and she would do mostly anything to help out her kind. Loyalty ran deep for her.
"I can drive, or if you have a car you can follow me. It's not a terribly long drive."

He chuckled. Well, if her powers were as good as she said it was, then he didn't mind giving it a go. He knew not to trust strangers from the get go, but she seemed like she was on his side, even if he wasn't part of their coven. People like them stuck together, right? Even if she meant him any harm...well, he might not have control over his powers, but he certainly had a way to get out.
"Sure, sounds good," he smirked, "you're not trying to kidnap me or anything, are you? Weird role reversal but yeah, give me a second." He sent a quick text to Rhiannon just in case, telling her he was going to be out for a bit longer than he thought.
"All right, let's go," he gave Autumn a nod.

"You'd be able to fight me off if I was," Autumn said with a laugh. At his go-ahead, she stood, moving back off through the varied plants and flowers of the gardens. Her white dress, so expertly tailored to the curves of her form, swished behind her, giving her the faint appearance of an angelic being. It was an image she often went for.
She led him back through to where she'd parked her car, keeping the chatter light and friendly as they traveled. Purposefully, she increased her attraction towards him, at a slow and steady pace that would not tip him off but would still draw him towards her. Autumn had done it a million times before- the victims would just assume it was due to their charming conversations and her bright personality, and would gravitate towards her automatically.
She kept this up as they moved towards her house. She had not spoken falsely- it was a charming old wooden house, two stories, set off a road in the midst of thick trees and foliage. Autumn apparently took to plants herself, since the front porch was covered with green, leafy ferns, herbs, and brightly colored flowers. She had cast so many protective and wellness spells around the place that the air seemed to vibrate with magic and possibilities. It was easy to see why the witches gathered here often.
Autumn was grateful that no one else was visiting now. She got out of the car and waved with a hand towards the sun-splattered house that sat among the dancing leaves. "What do you think?" She asked, with a bright smile. "I can just breathe easier out here."

He chuckled. It was true; despite his lean frame and smaller stature, he wasn't a fool. A few decades or so living in the slums of the city had toughened his skin considerably. He didn't put too much thought into it; witches were witches and well, he didn't sense anything off from her.
In fact, he was feeling rather comfortable in her presence. She reminded him of his sister in a way, charming when she wanted to, the kind who wanted to learn, to be powerful to help themselves to some goal they wanted...and Hywel wasn't exactly the kind to have a competence kink but hey, he liked people who knew what they wanted. It compensated for his own lack of direction, at least. It was a nice conversation, and she was charismatic enough.
It didn't take long for him to feel comfortable enough to chat with her; he was a socialite after all. This was no different. He had to admit, her home was charming too. Leafy and lush with greenery, it was the kind of home he used to dream of back when he was a child, listening to his mother's stories of a time without famine, when the forests were lush with life and their own existence didn't depend on the earth and all the gifts she gave, and all the gifts she'd take away.
"A really nice place," he mused, leaning back to take in the whole view, "if we didn't enjoy living in the city so much, I'd have wanted a little house like this too. Reminds me of our home in Ireland back then; always wanted to live in a forest but we were farming folk back then."

Autumn was almost as proud of her house as she was of herself, and the praise made her cheeks tinge pink with joy. "I'm glad you like it," she said, leading him up the stairs and through the red painted door.
The inside of her house was nearly as charming- sunlight filtered in from all sides, more plants hung from the ceiling and walls, and there was a faint smell of lavender. The furniture was cozy, and big armchairs were gathered in front of a large fireplace, where a fluffy orange cat was sleeping. The first floor was open plan- the living room, dining room, and kitchen all blended into one another, and in the back corner were the stairs to the second floor.
"Are you hungry? Can I get you anything to drink?" Autumn was already collecting her healing tools as she spoke, placing them on the oak dining table and turning her attraction up just a few more degrees. Healing first, business second.

It really was comforting here. The smell of lavender and bright plants that seemed to grow all around made for such a homey experience, Hywel felt almost at peace, a feeling he had long forgotten. She even had a cat, the sleepy bundle of fur making him smile. "What's your cat's name?" he asked. He always had a fondness for cats after all; even if Sylvan was Rhiannon's familiar, he felt a sort of kinship with his sister's cat.
"If you have any tea?" he asked, turning to Autumn with a smile, "I'm not really picky with what kind but tea sounds good."
He took a seat in one of the big armchairs in her living room, already glancing around. Really, it was how he expected a witch's cabin to be, but also, it felt so...warm, so lived in. He hated to admit that his own home was rather the opposite; everything was clean and neat and had its own place, but it was almost decorated in a sort of performance. Objects that had lost their meaning in the decades of his life were sparsely left around the apartment, but it didn't feel the same warmth as he could feel right now.
"So what kind of healing do you do?" he mused, "or does it come with a diagnostic test first? I'm not exactly sure that my...problem's a common one." At least, he didn't think it was. He had long given up trying to find any precedence for his own condition; nothing ever showed up, after all.

"That's Peaches," Autumn said with a smile. "She's friendly, even if all she does is sleep." Peaches lifted her head in response to her name, one of her ears flicking back as she yawned. Autumn nodded at the request for tea, moving off to the kitchen portion of the floor and putting the kettle to boil.
"Chamomile, then," she said, mostly to herself. She had a few relaxing herbs that she added to that tea, which would serve a double purpose. Healing, and seduction, were both easier when the person was truly relaxed. It was also the reason her house was so soothing- apart from her own fondness for the style.
His question brought a genuine chuckle from the half-fae, as she prepared the mugs and brought out the sugar and honey. "Usually a diagnostic test first. Different kinds of healing work better for different afflictions. If your situation is as unique as you believe, it may take several sessions and several types to heal it. Today we'll focus on getting you comfortable and figuring out what's wrong, so I can do some planning for next time." Out came the kettle of fragrant tea, poured into the two mugs. Autumn sat in the chair next to him, plopping two sugar cubes in her own drink.
